Biden & Economic Stimulus, Dec 2021

From the $1,400 stimulus checks early in the year through the child tax credits and recently passed infrastructure bill, Americans see Democratic programs to stimulate the economy through both partisan and practical lenses. Democrats and those who’ve benefited are most enthusiastic – most others, not so much. And a quarter of Americans don’t seem to know enough about the still in-the-works Build Back Better plan to have an opinion of it.

Economy & Biden Approval, Nov 2021

Despite rapid job growth and decreasing unemployment – but as inflation flares – the economy continues to drive Americans’ perception of Joe Biden’s performance in office. In the latest NPR/Marist Poll, 39% name inflation as the most important economic concern, far outpacing other worries such as wages (17%), labor shortages (11%), and unemployment (10%). Biden’s overall approval rating has slipped to 42% which matches the approval he receives for his handling of the economy (42%).

Trust in Elections & Threat to Democracy, Nov 2021

A majority of Americans (62%) say they will trust the results of the 2024 election even if the candidate they support loses, which includes 82% of Democrats but only one third of Republicans (33%). More than eight in ten (81%) Americans believe there is a “serious threat” to our democracy including 89% of Republicans, 80% of independents, and 79% of Democrats. But when asked which party presents the bigger threat, there’s a split: 42% say Democrats, 41% say Republicans, and 8% say both.

Majorities of Americans say the global community and the United States are doing too little to address climate change. Nearly six in ten (59%) say the world is doing “too little” and half (50%) say U.S. climate change policies “don’t go far enough.”
