A significant number of New Yorkers who will celebrate Thanksgiving this year are tightening their belts. 47% say they are slashing some or much of their spending while only about one in five are minimally cutting their costs. 34% report their Thanksgiving spending habits are staying the same.
Bloomberg’s Approval Rating Slides

Although a majority of registered voters in New York City — 59% — think Mayor Michael Bloomberg is doing either an excellent or good job in office, his approval rating has dropped significantly. This is the first time since 2005 that his job performance rating has dipped into the 50 percent range. In a Marist Poll conducted in August 2005, 53% of the city’s voters thought Mayor Bloomberg was doing well in his position. Bloomberg’s approval rating has fallen since last month when 68% of the electorate thought Bloomberg was doing an above average job. Currently, Bloomberg is far from perfect in the eyes of 39% of voters. 28% report his job as fair while 11% say he is performing poorly as mayor.

Senator Hillary Clinton may not have won the White House, but if it were up to a majority of New York voters, she’d be on her way to the State Department. 55% of the state’s electorate wants President-elect Barack Obama to select New York’s junior senator as his Secretary of State while 31% think Clinton should remain in the U.S. Senate. 14% aren’t quite sure what Senator Clinton’s future should be.

The campaign trail comes to an end today for Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain. In a Marist Poll, conducted entirely on the eve of Election Day, Barack Obama leads John McCain by 9 percentage points nationally — 52% to 43% — among likely voters including those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate. In Marist’s Sunday night poll, McCain trailed Obama by the same margin among this group. Among registered voters nationwide, Obama is now ahead of McCain 50% to 42%.
The American Electorate: Great Expectations?

53% of registered voters nationwide say they are enthusiastic about the choices they have for president while 44% aren’t as energized. But, there’s more to the story. The proportion of Barack Obama’s supporters who report being excited about their choice of candidates is more than double that of John McCain’s. 81% of voters behind Obama are enthused compared with 37% of John McCain’s backers.

After months of campaigning, the presidential contest comes down to mere hours. Heading into Election Day, Senator Barack Obama is ahead of his Republican rival, Senator John McCain, by 9 percentage points nationally — 53% to 44% — among likely voters including those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate. In a Marist Poll conducted just last week, Obama held a 7 percentage point lead. Among registered voters nationwide, Obama is currently ahead of McCain, 51% to 42%, respectively.
